Mini's, as they are referred to, are excellent pets. These animals
were bred back down to the original size of horses from the wild.
Originally, horses were hunted by other animals and this is the
reason why they were originally so tiny. Their size allowed them
to hide from their enemies in the tall grasses of deserts and
prairies.

The desire to obtain a smaller horse that stays under the AMHA's
requirements is beneficial because it allows them to be duly registered
and compete in many shows and events. This enables them to acquire
the status deserving of such beautiful well bred animals. These
achievements then carry on to the history of their future offspring,
making good bloodlines easily recognizable. This is the same as
with one that would show a dog for future breed quality and recognition.
Larger versions of the miniature horse are equally lovable, but
are looked upon as pets rather than show quality animals.
